Deck mounting hardware is available in standard deck mounts and flip up flush mounts. Pole grippers (tower mounted) are available and are a very useful tool for the shallow water fisherman.
Selecting A Push Pole
First let's talk about length. It is recommended that you use the longest pole you can comfortably trailer (transport) on the boat. Once you are on the water, the length is an advantage. When you are poling the boat in a straight line, you "walk" down the length of the pole. When you run out of pole, you pick it up and start over. For maneuvering (turning) the boat, short pushes work best. So if you have a 17' boat, a 19' push pole is not too long. Remember that the motor extends about 2' past the boat.
As for the different composition of poles, as push poles get lighter and stiffer, they get more expensive. Fiberglass push pole are the strongest, most durable, and least expensive, but also the heaviest and most flexible. The graphite poles are the lightest, stiffest poles, and the most expensive, but also the most fragile. That is why the hybrid (fiberglass & graphite) is the most popular, combining the best of fiberglass, durability, with the best of graphite, being light and stiff.
All push poles carry a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, but not against breakage. All push poles can be broken if not taken care of properly. Most poles that break are broken on the road (falling off of the boat while transporting) or at the dock, where the pole gets caught under a dock with the boat rocking. Very rarely are they broken while actually poling a boat.
Another thing to keep in mind is, that unlike fishing rods, which most fisherman will have many, you will only have one push pole on your boat. So make it a good one.
Shipping
Because of the length of push poles, shipping can be troublesome. However, we are able to ship the Advance push poles 3 piece push poles. The Advance poles are shipped in sections that can be assembled with very little effort. Shipping cost should be around $50, depending on location. Please call or email for further details.
